Wow! I want to be able to share my music but I don't know how. I would love to make a CD but how would I get it recorded and sounding good? I would love to be able to try to get a recording deal but where to start?

Great enthusiasm Cool That alone will take you a long way!

But....slow down a little bit here. It's not all about just recording a CD and getting a recording deal. You need to get in your prayer closet and have some one on one time with God. This is you ultimate direction....remember Matt 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well What's your true purpose? Ask God for guidance in your music ministry and ask him to enfold the vision.

The best way to share your music is in a live setting. This is where it is really at. And...the best place to start, is in your own church! Share your vision with your worship leader and/or Pastor. Ultimately, this is where most CCM artists start out. Set the "ground work" first, then go for the CD if this is the direction that God leads you.

I see many do the opposite and focus on the CD as a way to get ahead. A CD is important, but it's merely a tool for exposure. Getting out and playing live...getting that experience and honing your skill in music and in worship is the key. Too many artists record CD's, press 1000 and sell 100. Again, because they have it all backwards. Recording a CD to record a CD is a costly venture and will not guarantee a contract with anyone, no matter how well it is engineered/produced.

From a purely business perspective, For a CD to sell well you need distribution and marketing. One without the other doesn't work. Recording it (the CD) is just a mere fraction of the equation. Promotion is everything.

...and even then; only the top ten or twenty Christian artists make enough to live on without supplementary income from another source; and that's WITH big distribution and promotion..

Idea There are a lot of know-it-alls who give directions, opinions, but hardly ever seem to answer the questions you ask. I know it has been almost 1 1/2 years since your oringal post. Go to www.ripcordentertainment.com and ask someone there what you need to do. Tell them an Anderson grad sent you! They help independant artist get going.
